Welcome to Cape Town!
Travelling to a new country can always be daunting, but that is no reason to spend your time in Cape Town couped up in class and your accommodation. We at Cape Studies encourage our students to use the city as their classroom and take every single opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and local culture. Cape Studies offers a vibrant and international learning environment, nestled in the heart if Green Point; there is no better place to have as your homebase. Here’s your guide to making the most of your stay — from bucket-list experiences to hidden gems and off-the-beaten-track adventures that even some Capetonians haven’t discovered yet.
Start with the essentials
Cape Town offers must see experiences which can get you acquainted with the landscape of the area. There are a couple of tours that you can book on your first few days to get you started.
Go on safari!
Cape Town offers a variety of options for your safari needs. You could book a well tailored tour to visit safaris near Cape Town and check seeing the Big Five off your bucket list! If you have a bit more time at your disposal you could book a tour which will take you through the garden route for unforgettable experiences and breathtaking views of the nature South Africa has to offer.
P.S. You can also see the big five on the local currency if you don’t make it onto a safari.

See where two oceans meet:
Join a full-day Cape Peninsula tour and experience the stunning views along the way. Typically such a tour would take you through the iconic Chapman’s Peak, the dramatic cliffs and bends of Cape Point leading to the Southernmost tip of Africa, and to top it all off pay a visit to the Pinguins you might even catch sight of a dassie.

Begin your local adventure:
Due to Cape Town’s reputation one might be hesitant to explore the city. The suggested tours allow you to see Cape Town and familiarise yourself.
Take a walk from Bo Kaap down Wale street taking in the air and looking at a somewhat serene scene. This beautiful city has a lot to offer, from modern buildings to picturesque 18 century buildings. As you walk down Wale Street you will be met with Green Market Square, the Cathedral side by side to the “Arch for the Arch.” On the way down you will encounter Green Market Square with a piece of the Berlin wall! How’s that for jaw dropper. When you continue walking down the brick-laid path you’ll be met by Gigi’s rooftop bar located on the roof of Gorgeous George Hotel. You can enjoy scrumptiously prepared meals and a drink with mate, and if you’re lucky, you’ll be there on a day with live music.
Swim with the Penguins:
Now that you’ve gone past Simon’s Town and know where boulders beach is, why not spend the day there – for free. If you are looking for a relaxing beach day there is a free part of the beach where you can spend the day like a local and bask in the sun with the penguins.

Wine tasting:
Cape Town is known for its excellent wine, booking a private wine tasting tour is always a good way to go. Whether you are going with a group or alone, you are guaranteed to have a great time. What better way to explore the Cape Winelands than with great company and a taste of African wine and cousine.
